Manufacturers will continue to sell more tablets than ultrabooks, but the sales growth rate for ultrabooks will be three times as high.

Cnet: A new report from Juniper Research predicts that sales of ultrabooks will grow three times as fast as sales of tablets over the next five years. However, because tablets have a head start, total sales of tablets will continue to exceed ultrabook sales. By 2016, Juniper predicts 253 million tablets sold, compared to 178 million ultrabooks sold.

The company says the newest operating system from Microsoft, which will support touch screens, will contribute to the popularity of ultrabooks. "Windows 8 will play a pivotal role in driving Ultrabook adoption, with extended battery life, always-on-always-connected and other functionalities coming with Microsoft's next OS," Juniper said in a statement.
