Microsoft Licenses Patents to LG for Android, Chrome OS Devices

Microsoft now gets a cut of the purchase prices for 70 percent of Android devices sold in the U.S.

Wall Street Journal: LG Electronics has agreed to pay Microsoft licensing fees on its smartphones, tablets and other devices that use the Android or Chrome operating systems. "We are pleased to have built upon our longstanding relationship with LG to reach a mutually beneficial agreement," said Microsoft's Horacio Gutierrez. Details about the deal were not released.

According to Microsoft, this agreement means that the company receives patent licensing fees for 70 percent of the Android devices sold in the U.S.
