Google's Chief Works to Trim a Bloated Ship

Larry Page is on a mission, and he doesn't want excessive e-mail and meetings slowing him down.

NY Times: Google CEO Larry Page may be new to his job, but he's already made many changes to the company. So far, he's canceled 25 projects, and he led the company's $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility.

But Page's biggest impact may be on Google's culture. He's encouraging quick decision-making and discouraging the use of e-mail because he believes it is too slow and cumbersome. He once even got rid of a secretary so he could avoid being scheduled for meetings, which he believes waste time. “Ever since taking over as CEO, I have focused much of my energy on increasing Google’s velocity and execution, and we’re beginning to see results,” Page said.
