The service's more than 4.5 million users were flooded with error messages over the weekend.

Time: Over the weekend, the servers powering the new Google+ social networking service ran out of disk space, causing the system to send multiple error messages to users' e-mail accounts. "Please accept our apologies for the spam we caused this afternoon," Google's Vic Gundotra wrote on his Google+ page. "For about 80 minutes we ran out of disk space on the service that keeps track of notifications. Hence our system continued to try sending notifications. Over, and over again. Yikes."

An unrelated report from Paul Allen says that Google+ may already have more than 4.5 million members in the U.S.
