Google says that a massive phishing attack which targeted U.S. cabinet officials, among others, originated in China.

Washington Post: Yesterday in a blog post, Google revealed that a major phishing attack had uncovered the Gmail login credentials for hundreds of people, including "senior U.S. government officials, Chinese political activists, officials in several Asian countries (predominantly South Korea), military personnel and journalists." According to Google, the attack originated in Jinan, China, and the hackers used the login credentials they gained to monitor users' e-mail communications.

Today, Chinese officials have vehemently denied the accusations, calling it “a fabrication out of thin air” and “unacceptable.”
