Mobile App Stores a $3.8 Billion Biz in 2011

IHS iSuppli says that sales at the app stores owned by Apple, Google, Nokia and RIM will increase 77.7 percent this year.

Cnet: Market research firm IHS iSuppli has released a new report that predicts that sales at the app stores owned by Apple, Google, Nokia and RIM will increase 77.7 percent this year, reaching $3.8 billion. They forecast that by 2014, app sales could hit $8.3 billion. In 2010, sales at the apps stores totaled $2.1 billion.

Apple's App Store alone should have $2.91 billion in revenue this year, accounting for what the report calls "a gargantuan three-quarters share of the total market."
