InformationWeek: Novell's Vibe Cloud enterprise social media product has officially finished the beta testing phase, and the company is now rolling out an enterprise version of the product. Vibe combines activity streams, collaboration, file sharing and group editing capabilities into a single SaaS offering.
In order to get the product into as many users' hands as possible, Novell is adopting a "freemium" pricing model, which allows individual users to access the basic edition of the cloud-based product for free. Enterprises that want more administrative control, integration with enterprise directory services, and unlimited collaboration groups will have to pay $84 per user per year. "Our presumption is that we will attract enough enterprise users to make this work, while at the same time providing a really low-friction way of getting users to try it," said Novell's Andy Fox.
