Unnamed sources say a probe could begin after the Justice Department decides whether to oppose Google's acquisition of ITA Software Inc.

Bloomberg: "Two people familiar with the matter" say that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is considering launching an investigation into Google's search practices. However, the probe won't begin until after the Justice Department decides whether to oppose Google's purchase of ITA Software Inc. on the grounds that it would hinder competition in the travel search industry.

In a previous interview, FTC Commissioner Thomas Rosch said that he supported a probe of the dominant players in the Internet-search industry, but did not mention Google by name.
