Acer CEO Resigns as Tablets Cannibalize PC Sales

The announcement comes after the company lowers it sales forecast for the first quarter.

CIOInsight: After multiple disagreements with the company board, Acer CEO and president Gianfranco Lanci is stepping down. The news comes after Acer reduced its sales forecast for the first quarter from a 3 percent increase to a 10 percent decrease. Board chairman J.T. Wang will fill in for Lanci until a permanent replacement is found.

Acer, which had considerable early success with netbooks, has struggled to compete as tablet PCs have become more popular.
