IEEE Approves Next WiMax Standard

The 802.16m will allow speeds of more than 300M bps.

Computerworld: The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has officially approved the IEEE 802.16m standard, also known as WirelessMAN-Advanced or WiMax-2. The wireless networking standard could deliver speeds of more than 300M bps (bits per second).

Features of the standard include MIMO (multiple-in, multiple out) technology, support for Femtocells and backward compatibility with the current WiMax standard. The standard has also been officially recognized as a version of 4G.
