IDC: Android, Windows Phone To Rule Mobile

Tuesday Mar 29th 2011 by Staff

The firm believes that by 2015, Android will account for 45.4 percent of the market.

Cnet: IDC's predictions for this year's mobile OS market share aren't at all surprising: They predict Android in first place with 39.5 percent of the market, followed by Symbian, iOS, BlackBerry and, finally, Windows Phone 7 with just 5.5 percent of the market.

The firm's predictions for 2015 look quite a bit different, however. It forecasts that Android's market share will continue to grow to reach 45.4 percent. In second place, they put Windows phone with 20.9 percent market share--a projected result of Microsoft's deal with Google. And it expects that iOS and BlackBerry will place third and fourth, with 15.3 percent and 13.7 percent of the smartphone market, respectively.
