A rumored deal with MasterCard and Citigroup would make it possible for consumers to use their Android phones as digital wallets.

Wall Street Journal: Sources close to the situation say that Google is teaming up with MasterCard and Citigroup on a project that would allow consumers to pay for purchases by waving their Android phones in front of cash registers. While Google wouldn't receive a fee for payments made through the system, it would be able to use customer data to offer its advertisers more targeted advertising opportunities.

Google has reportedly already had talks with Wal-Mart about the project. The program will likely debut later this year.
