Firefox 4 Downloads Top IE9, Approach 7M

Wednesday Mar 23rd 2011 by Staff

While the latest version of Internet Explorer was downloaded 2.35 million times in the first 24 hours after release, Firefox 4 soared to nearly 7 million downloads in its first full day.

PCMagazine: Mozilla's Firefox 4 Web browser made its debut yesterday, and within 24 hours users had downloaded the update nearly 7 million times. By comparison, Microsoft's Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) was downloaded only 2.35 million times in its first day of availability. However, IE9 may not have achieved as many downloads because it can't be used on Windows XP, which is the operating system still used by 55 percent of all computer users.

Real-time download statistics for the new open source browser can be found at the Firefox 4 Download Stats site.
