If the $39 billion deal goes through, U.S. consumers would only have three major wireless networks to choose from.

Washington Post: On Sunday, AT&T announced that it would purchase T-Mobile USA in a cash and stock deal worth $39 billion. The announcement was a bit of a surprise to industry watchers, who had been expecting Sprint Nextel to purchase T-Mobile. If the deal goes through, AT&T would become the largest of the three remaining mobile networks, with 130 million users.

Before the deal can be completed, it must be approved by the FCC and the Justice Department.
