Consumerization of IT: 95% of Information Workers Use Self-Purchased Technology for Work

Workers report twice as many self-purchased devices used for work as their employers do.

ReadWriteWeb: A recent survey conducted by IDC for Unisys finds that 95 percent of information workers say that they use electronic devices they purchased themselves for work. Interestingly, their bosses report only half as many self-purchased devices used for work as the workers themselves do. Other key findings form the consumerization of IT study included the following:

  • Workers are generally unhappy with the IT support they receive for business use of consumer devices.
  • 67% of workers say they can access non-work-related websites, but only 44% of employers say their employees can access non-work-related sites on devices they use for work.
  • 52% of workers say they can store personal data on the company network, but only 37% of employers agree.
