Public Cloud Spending by Businesses is on the Rise

IDC says total public cloud spending could hit $29.5 billion by 2014.

CIOInsight: According to researchers at IDC, businesses spent $11.1 billion on public cloud services in 2009. By 2014, the firm forecasts that number could reach $29.5 billion.

Professional services, communications, and process manufacturing companies are the most likely to move to the cloud, while healthcare and banking firms are among the least likely to adopt public cloud computing. Also, in the next few years, investment in cloud applications is likely to decrease, while cloud infrastructure software spending will rise.
