Tablets Sapping PC Demand, Gartner Says

The market research firm lowers its predictions for 2011 PC sales.

Wall Street Journal: Market research firm Gartner said in November that it believed PC sales would increase 14 percent in 2011. Now it has lowered that prediction to 10.5 percent growth, in part due to the effect of tablet PCs.

"We expect growing consumer enthusiasm for mobile PC alternatives, such as the iPad and other media tablets, to dramatically slow home mobile PC sales, especially in mature markets," said Gartner's George Shiffler.

Researchers at iSuppli predict tablet sales will triple this year.
