Amazon S3 to Store 1 Trillion Objects by 2012

The cloud-based storage service has been growing 155 percent to 185 percent per year.

eWeek: Amazon Web Services first launched its cloud computing storage service known as "S3" (Simple Storage Service) in March 2006, and by the end of that year, it stored 2.9 billion objects. Since then, the company says S3 has been growing 155 percent to 185 percent per year. By the end of 2010, it held 262 billion objects.

Amazon now projects that S3 will store 668 billion objects by the end of 2011 and more than 1 trillion by the end of 2012.
