Google Legal Move Could Alter Course of Oracle Trial

Google has asked the patent office to re-examine the patents at issue in its current lawsuit with Oracle.

CIO: Google has asked the U.S. Patent and Trademark office to re-examine the Oracle patents at issue in the current lawsuit over Android's use of Java. That move could significantly delay the lawsuit.

The patent office agrees to re-examine patents 92 percent of the time. The agency says it takes about 26 months to complete this process, but industry experts say it really takes more like three to four years. The lawsuit could be delayed during that time, while the courts wait for the patent office to complete its work.
