InformationWeek: HP has announced plans to acquire privately held analytics vendor Vertica for an undisclosed sum. In the past two years, Vertica has grown from serving 100 customers to 300 customers, who include Comcast, Groupon, and BlueCrest Capital Management. "In today's highly competitive environment, customers need the ability to manage the increasing amounts of data and growing streams of information with more flexible, more dynamic architectures," said HP's Shane Robison. "Vertica's unique platform combines simplicity with industry-leading performance, allowing HP to leap ahead of the industry in the race to analyze massive amounts of data."
Industry watchers say the acquisition could help HP keep up with IBM, which recently purchased Netezza, a competitor to Vertica.
