Cellphone Security Threats Rise Sharply: McAfee

In the fourth quarter of 2010, cellphone malware reports increased 46 percent over 2009's numbers.

Reuters: According to security vendor McAfee, cellphone malware was up significantly in the fourth quarter of last year--a 46 percent increase over the previous year. "As more users access the Internet from an ever-expanding pool of devices -- computer, tablet, smartphone or Internet TV -- web-based threats will continue to grow in size and sophistication," the company predicted in its fourth-quarter threat report.

By contrast, spam levels were down sharply during the quarter after authorities moved to take down several big botnets.
