Facebook's 'Sponsored Stories' Turns Your News Feed Activity into Ads

Users have no choice but to allow advertisers to use their pictures and information in new ad format.

Huffington Post: Facebook is launching a new ad format called "Sponsored Stories," which will allow advertisers to re-post users' pictures and information as an ad. For example, if you check in at Starbucks, Starbucks can buy access to that information. Your check-in (or like or app interaction or page update) will then appear on your friends' screens as an ad.

The program has been compared to Twitter's sponsored tweets, but has been drawing criticism because users have no way to opt out of the program and aren't paid for the use of their photos and information.
