The search giant is testing out an offer program similar to Groupon's.

PCWorld: In 2010, Google made a play to acquire online coupon company Groupon for a reported $6 billion, but the smaller company's board turned down the offer. Now Google is working to create a similar service on its own and began testing the program last Friday.

"This initiative is part of an ongoing effort at Google to make new products, such as the recent Offer Ads beta, that connect businesses with customers in new ways," the company said in a statement. "We do not have more details to share at this time, but will keep you posted."
