The company is the first to launch a service that relies on the open source platform developed by NASA and RackSpace.

TechWorld: OpenStack, the open source cloud platform developed by NASA and RackSpace, now has its first major commercial deployment. Internap has announced the beta version of its XipCloud elastic storage, which runs on OpenStack. "We saw the OpenStack framework as solving a lot of fundamental large-scale system management and deployment issues that have allowed us to put resources into differentiated areas of the solution," said Internap's Scott Hrastar.

Pricing for the service has not yet been announced.
