Digitimes: Usually, PC sales decline considerably in the first quarter after the holiday rush of the quarter before. However, this year, Digitimes researchers predict a sales drop of less than 10 percent for notebook makers, and possibly a drop of less than 5 percent, despite the challenge from tablet PCs.
Those strong sales predictions are due to several factors. First, the Lunar New Year is starting earlier than usual, and sales in China and other countries are expected to be strong ahead of the holiday. Second, Intel's new platform is stimulating sales. Third, several manufacturers are experimenting with hybrid models--tablets with notebook-like docking stations--that are also expected to increase sales.
