Google, Facebook, Yahoo and Akamai have designated June 24, 2011, as World IPv6 Day.

TechWorld: In a move aimed at calling attention to the dwindling supply of IPv4 Internet addresses, Google, Facebook, Yahoo and Akamai have joined together to designate June 24, 2011, as World IPv6 Day. On that day, the companies will test out their IPv6 Web sites.

Although most users should not experience any difficulties related to the test, Google's Lorenzo Colitti notes,"In rare cases, users may experience connectivity problems, often due to mis-configured or misbehaving home network devices. Over the coming months we will be working with application developers, operating system vendors and network device manufacturers to further minimize the impact and provide testing tools and advice for users."
