Password Proliferation Adds Security Risk

A new report says that cloud computing is increasing the number of passwords employees must remember, which increases help desk calls and decreases security.

InformationWeek: A new Forrester survey commissioned by Symantec finds that employees at 87 percent of companies must remember two or more corporate passwords. At 27 percent of organizations, employees have to remember 6 or more passwords. As a result, 30 to 50 percent of all help desk calls are employees asking to have their passwords reset.

The report says password proliferation results from the growth in Web 2.0 and cloud computing services.
