At the CES show, ioSafe showed off its Rugged Portable hard drive, which retained its data after six blasts from a shotgun.

PCWorld: Among the more impressive pieces of technology on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is ioSafe's Rugged Portable hard drive. In order to show the durability of the device, the company took it to a Las Vegas gun range and shot it six times with a 12-gauge shotgun. Although the case was damaged, the drive retained its data.

Depending on whether customers choose the aluminum or the titanium case, the drive can also survive drops of 10 to 20 feet and being submerged in 10 or 30 feet of salt water for three days. It also withstood shots from an M16, although experts said a more direct hit would have destroyed data on the device.
