Survey Confirms Tablets Hot, Laptops Not So Much

A new report suggests that laptop makers are right to worry about tablet PCs as competitors.

Wall Street Journal: In a survey of 8,000 people, Accenture found that while 28 percent purchased a desktop or laptop last year, only 17 percent plan to do so this year. However, while only 3 percent of those surveyed said they bought a tablet last year, 8 percent plan to do so this year. “It’s actually a huge change given that this is a product that’s been on the market for less than a year,” says Accenture's Kumu Puri.

The survey also found that 3D TV is growing in popularity, and people in emerging markets like China are much more concerned about owning the newest, most innovative products than people in more mature markets.
