StatCounter says Firefox has 38.11 percent of the European market, compared to Internet Explorer's 37.52 percent.

ReadWriteWeb: According to analytics firm StatCounter, Mozilla's Firefox has overtaken Microsoft's Internet Explorer as the most popular browser in Europe. For December 2010, Firefox had a 38.11 percent share of the EU market, compared to Internet Explorer's 37.52, marking the first time that the open source browser has held first place in any major geographic region.

Industry watchers say Firefox's gains are likely due to the "browser ballot" that European Windows users see during setup. That ballot is the result of an anti-trust agreement between Microsoft and European authorities.
