It's the largest real estate deal in the United States this year.

Wired: Google's biggest purchase this year wasn't a tech company; it was an enormous New York City building that it bought for a reported $1.9 billion. The transaction is said to be the largest real estate deal of the year in the United States.

The 3 million-square-foot building at 111 Eighth Avenue sits atop a junction of fiber-cable, making it attractive to tenants like Verizon, Sprint, Level 3, WebMD, Nike, BarnesandNoble.com and, of course, Google. Currently 2,000 Googlers work in the building, and the company is hiring.
