Computerworld: Salesforce.com is expanding beyond its CRM roots with a new cloud-based database offering. Database.com leverages Oracle's flagship database to provide a back-end for nearly any type of application. Those applications could run on Salesforce.com's Force.com platform, on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud or other services.
Basic service for three users with 100,000 records and 50,000 transactions per month will be available for free. Costs go up $10 per month for each additional 100,000 records and 150,000 transactions.
