23-Year-Old Russian Believed Responsible for One-Third of Spam

Oleg Y. Nikolaenko will be arraigned today on charges related to the Mega-D botnet.

Wall Street Journal: Russian Oleg Y. Nikolaenko will be arraigned today in a Milwaukee court. The 23-year-old is accused of running the Mega-D botnet, responsible for as much as 32 percent of all spam. He is believed to have controlled a network of 509,000 infected computers used to send e-mails offering fake Rolex watches, herbal male enhancement products and counterfeit prescription drugs, including Viagra.

Nikolaenko was arrested last month while attending a car show in Las Vegas.
