The firm now expects global PC shipments to grow 14 percent this year, down from its 18 percent projection in September.

Wall Street Journal: Market research firm Gartner has revised its projections for global PC shipments. It now expects shipments to grow 14 percent this year, down from its September forecast of 18 percent growth. It believes shipments will grow 16 percent next year, which is also a decrease from a prior 18 percent growth estimate.

The company said that it had modified its projections because consumers were reining in their spending and because "media tablets are expected to displace around 10 percent of PC units by 2014."
