Major Outage Hits Comcast Customers

A DNS error may have caused the temporary loss of service for customers on the East Coast.

Cnet: Comcast says that Internet service is once again functioning normally for customers on the East Coast after a temporary outage last night. Although the lost of service affected primarily customers in the Boston and Washington, D.C., areas, some customers in Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, New York, and New Hampshire also felt the impact.

It appears that the outage may have been caused by a problem with Comcast's DNS servers. Customers who switched their settings to Google or OpenDNS servers during the outage reported that service returned to normal.
