NewsFactor: A new Harris Interactive poll finds that 59 percent of American workers check their e-mail on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, and 79 percent of those who do check will receive a work-related e-mail. "We're addicted to e-mail and the Internet, as useful as these tools are," said Greg Sterling, principal analyst at Sterling Market Intelligence. "It's truly unfortunate that so many people, including me, have trouble unplugging. The constant urge to check e-mail takes you away from whatever you're doing and makes it hard to concentrate or enjoy yourself."
Ten percent of those surveyed admitted to checking e-mail during social gatherings, and five percent did so to avoid awkward moments.
