Younger IT workers are getting their start by working for outsourcing firms.

Computer Weekly: A new report from Diaz Research suggests that a major shift is underway in the typical career path for IT workers. As companies are outsourcing more of the "hands on" work that lower level workers used to do, young college graduates are going to work for outsourcers instead of directly for companies. When it comes time for management to hire more senior workers, they don't have those lower level employees to promote and may have to recruit talent from their suppliers instead.

"Obviously where companies completely outsource hands-on work, the entry levels of their career structure tend to disappear so the experienced-staff-only career structure is arriving," said the report.
