Pay for IT security skills starts to decline after four years of increases.

eWeek: Research firm Foote Partners has published a list of the top 25 technology skills that saw an increase in average pay during the third quarter. Notably missing from the list is IT security, which saw its first pay decrease after four years of increases. "The decline in market values for [security] certifications that has suddenly appeared in our new benchmark research is simply an indication that Act One is coming to an end, not a sign that security talent is being devalued," said firm founder David Foote. "We're entering a transition period time for security professionals, and they'll have to be patient while it plays out."

The list is arranged in alphabetical order. Here are 10 notable inclusions:

  • Business analysis
  • Business performance management
  • C++
  • Microsoft Sharepoint Server
  • Mobile operating systems
  • Perl
  • Routing
  • SAP
