The deal will give EMC customers access to better storage infrastructure for cloud computing environments.

NYTimes: EMC has announced that it will purchase network storage vendor Isilon Systems for $2.25 billion. Isilon makes scale-out network attached storage which makes it possible for enterprises to increase their storage capacity rapidly. According to market research firm IDC, the market for this type of storage could be worth $6 billion within four years.

Several other large tech companies have also purchased storage vendors this year--including HP which won a bidding war against Dell for 3Par.
