Motorola Countersues Microsoft in Patent Case

One day after Microsoft sued Motorola, Motorola fires back.

Cnet: The already staggering number of mobile companies suing each other just got a little bit bigger. On Tuesday, Microsoft filed its second lawsuit in two months against Motorola, this time saying that Motorola breached its contract by overcharging for patents for wireless communication and video decoding technology used in the Xbox.

One day later, Motorola shot back with a lawsuit alleging that Windows and the Xbox violate 16 Motorola patents. A Motorola spokesperson said, "It is unfortunate that Microsoft has chosen the litigation path rather than entering into comprehensive licensing negotiations, as Motorola has mutually beneficial licensing relationships with the great majority of technology companies industry-wide."
