Early reports said T-Mobile sold out its stock of Windows Phone 7 handsets, but market researchers say Microsoft moved only 40,000 phones on the first day.

Mobiledia: Early reports said that T-Mobile sold out its supply of Windows Phone 7 smartphones on the first day of sales, but now a market research firm says Microsoft only moved 40,000 phones on the first day of availability. By contrast, Apple sold 270,000 first generation iPhones on its first day of sales, and Google's says consumers buy 160,000 Android phones every day. Microsoft reportedly spent $100 million to advertise the phones.

Microsoft did not comment on the number of phones sold.
