Thirty-three contributors, mostly from the German branch of OpenOffice.org, are leaving Oracle for the new community-based fork of the open source project.

PCWorld: Citing "unnecessary misunderstandings" with Oracle, 33 OpenOffice.org contributors, mostly located in Germany, are leaving the open source project to work on the LibreOffice fork, which is controlled by the Document Foundation. Oracle acquired the open source Microsoft Office alternative when it purchased Sun Microsystems and has since come under some intense criticism for its handling of the project.

The contributors explained their decision to leave Oracle in an e-mail which read, "Although it has been stressed several times that there will be collaboration on a technical level, and changes are possible -- there is no indication from Oracle to change its mind on the question of the project organization and management."
