FTC Lets Google Off The Hook

The agency has ended its investigation into privacy violations by Google's Street View vehicles.

SFGate: The federal government will not be pressing charges against Google now that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has ended its investigation into alleged privacy violations by the company's Street View vehicles. The agency accepted Google's explanation that the collection of data from unsecured Wi-Fi networks was "inadvertent."

In a letter to the company, the FTC did express concern over the lack of internal policies which allowed the privacy breaches to occur.
