Free Micro Instance could be an attempt to compete with Google.

ReadWriteWeb: Amazon is rolling out its least expensive cloud computing service yet--free Micro Instances. Beginning November 1, Amazon Web Services customers can get 750 hours of EC2 usage for free. That's enough to run continuously for one year. Of course, the Micro Instances don't provide a lot of computing power; they're limited to 613MB of memory, 5GB of Amazon S3 Storage, and have several other limitations.

Analysts say the new offering may help Amazon compete with Google App Engine's free service for developers.
