CrunchGear: A new Nielsen survey suggests that apps may not be quite as important to iPad owners as some have believed. The company found that nearly a third--32 percent--had never downloaded an app. 5 percent of iPad owners had downloaded only free apps, while 63 percent had downloaded at least one paid app.
The most popular app categories include games (62 percent), books (54 percent), music (50 percent), shopping (45 percent) and news & headlines (45 percent). Social networking and office productivity apps tied for twelfth place with 37 percent of iPad owners downloading an app.
