USAToday: Palo Alto Networks recently conducted an analysis of the cloud computing use of 723 large organizations worldwide. They found surprisingly high rates of cloud computing access. "Google Docs and Google Mail were initially introduced into organizations by users checking Web mail while at work," Palo Alto Network's Chris King. "Today, we find that the enterprise versions of these applications are licensed and require IT involvement for both installation and management, resulting in corporate IT pushing it out and standardizing it."
Of the enterprises surveyed, 79 percent used Microsoft Office 2010 Live, 30 percent used Google Docs, 69 percent used Microsoft's Skydrive online storage service and 85 percent used Google's App Engines.
