Adopting the Cloud: A Year of Trial and Error Ahead

In a survey, 72 percent of enterprises say they plan to increase their use of cloud computing.

CIO Insight: A new CompTIA survey of technology purchasing decision makers reveals growing interest in cloud computing, with 72 percent of respondents saying they plan to increase their use of the cloud. Still, CompTIA analyst Carolyn April warns, "Cloud-computing adoption is still nascent. The year ahead will be one of evaluation, trial and error and, most importantly, opportunity."

Other key findings of the survey, include the following:

  • 64 percent of respondents say they plan to increase their 2011 investment in cloud-computing solutions by more than 5 percent.
  • One half of respondents get their cloud-computing solutions from a third-party organization, such as a solution provider, VAR or integrator.
  • 36 percent of respondents buy cloud technology directly from a vendor.
