Linux Encroaching on Windows in the Enterprise

A new report shows that three-quarters of enterprises plan to add Linux servers, while nearly half plan to decrease their use of Windows servers. A new report from the Linux Foundation End User Council finds that enterprises are migrating their Windows servers to Linux at a fairly high rate. In a survey of 387 large enterprises, they found that 76.4 percent were planning to to add more Linux servers next year, while just 41.2 percent were planning to add Windows servers. A higher number, 43.6 percent of respondents, were planning to decrease their number of Windows servers.

In addition, 60 percent of those surveyed said Linux would be used for more mission-critical workloads.
