Despite the advantages of compliance, a new study finds that only 22 percent of companies meet the standard.

ComputerWeekly: A new Verizon Business study reveals that companies in compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) are 50 percent less likely to suffer a data breach. Matthijs van der Wel of Verizon's forensics team takes it one step farther, saying, "I have never investigated a data breach where the company concerned was fully compliant with PCI DSS."

Despite the obvious benefits of compliance, the study found that only 22 percent of the 200 organizations examined met the requirements of the standard in 2008 and 2009.
