SearchStorage: In July, EMC purchased Greenplum, and now the company has released a new direct attached storage (DAS) appliance based on Greenplum technology. The Greenplum Data Computing Appliance (DCA) includes Greenplum 4.0 software and 16 servers with 192 Intel cores. It can hold 36 TB uncompressed or 144 TB of compressed data per rack and scales from a half-rack up to 24 racks.

The new appliance should help EMC compete with similar offerings from Oracle, Netezza and Teradata. Pricing for the appliance starts at $1 million.
